![]() It’s recommended to get the Arch ISO via torrent from the download page, as this takes the stress off of the servers, and is also more likely to give you a genuine image – direct http downloads are susceptible to being hijacked with malicious images. Part 2 then picks up at the point of installing X11 and the i3wm. Part 1 of this document will cover installing the basic “command line” part of Arch on VirtualBox. This document, like the Arch Wiki, is available under GNU Free Documentation License 1.3 or later unless otherwise noted. The breadth and depth of the Arch Wiki make it superior to most other distros’ docs, and I strongly recommend going through it if you decide to get serious about Arch. Many of the steps included below are taken from the Arch Installation Guide, which along with the Arch Wiki in general, make up a great resource. So I thought a tutorial on how to set up this seemingly daunting environment in VirtualBox would make a great first post to my blog. I’ve also been using the i3 Window Manager (i3wm) for some time now, and he thinks it’s cool how you can see all your important windows on the screen at once. His curiosity of Arch has grown though, since he’s been watching me use it and hearing me speak of its nice features, like the bleeding edge repository. Recently, my thirteen-year-old son has taken an interest in Linux, starting with Ubuntu as many of us have done. ![]()
